{MLOB} refers to "Mold Line Over Base" - this means the mold line extends down the side and over the base, stopping on the inside of the outer skirt. The {MLOB} is shown here in red on both pieces. The inside of the outer skirt, where the {MLOB} mold line stops is shown in blue.

The intersection of the base and the inside of the outer skirt, where the {MLOB} stops, forms a 90 degree angle. Because of this sharp angle, there is often chipping or flaking at this intersection. Some of this can be seen in the photos.

{MLOB} pieces may be SB or RB. How do you tell?

{MLOB} SB pieces also have a circumferential mold line near the bottom of the skirt, as shown in green on the left. Note that the red line down the skirt crosses the green line around the skirt. {MLOB} RB pieces do not have this mold line shown in green, as shown on the right.

Note that all RB pieces are also {MLOB}

Some SB pieces are {MLOB} but most of these are early Hemingray products with the DEC . 19. 1871 patent date on them.

Note that with a normal SB non-{MLOB} piece, the red mold line would stop at the intersection of the green line (at the black dot), and not continue down across the base.
