At the edge of a mesa the line dropped down the steep hill to the southern terminus - a ranch hiding down in the green little valley below. This shot shows how the poles were constructed really well. The brace was welded to the pole itself, while the crossarm was drilled and U-bolted around the pole and the brace tied in to the crossarm with the typical carriage bolt. For reasons not obvious to this observer, a side strain down guy was applied to this pole even though the line was still running in an arrow-straight line. The down guy was simply tied off to a pinon tree.
