A tower near Lakeview, Oregon for the Pacific DC intertie, a +/- 500KV direct current line between The Dalles, OR, and Los Angeles. I was curious about the post insulators below the wires on this particular tower. The wires are close to the ground relative to the other towers, and I wondered if those were just some sort of safety device so that the current wouldn't arc over to vehicles or cattle on the ground.
