A rather unusual pin we picked up somewhere along the way. It appears to have a more or less standard steel shank for mounting on the crossarm, wood cob, and copper wire wrapped around the cob that fits a standard signal insulator thread. Why go to the trouble of wrapping heavy copper wire as opposed to just cutting the thread into the cob? Possible refit? Looking for answers. (See next photo for a close-up)

Answer (Courtesy of Brent Burger): "I have a pin like this and found them from time-to-time years ago. Linemen told me this was a practice used when a pin was too small (or for some reason the insulator just fit too loosely). The copper wire was a standard issue tie wire that came in bundles and was just wound up the threads to goose it out a little and get a tighter fit. I have only seen this on telephone. No power. Railroad ? .... can't remember."
