Note: I fondly recall these skinny or "stick" poles as a kid in the 1950's and 1960's locally on New England Telephone & Telegraph Company open-wire lines. The poles weren't all that old...being of dark brown creosote. I was always impressed seeing poles that were as wide as their crossarms, like the one shown here. Some of these poles "looked" even a bit skinnier than their 10-pin crossarms...and the latter longer than the poles in some instances, too! As a final note I'll bet these skinny poles were a challenge to climb with hooks due to the poles' narrow diameter...so I have been told by a few veteran linemen...
