Thanks to Richard Case, Paul Greaves, and David Dahle for responding to my request. It seems that the blot outs were added to beef up a weak spot in the mold. It is interesting that there are ten blot outs. It makes look like it was a "GREB" (groove embossed Brookfield) that had been blotted out. Now THAT would be interesting! Thanks for the information.
