Here is the crew that rebuilt the long distance line to Victoria, BC across San Juan County, Washington in 1929. I knew several of the people in the photo. The line ran overhead on 3 islands (Orcas, Shaw, and San Juan), thus the need for submarine cable crossing signs. A kerosene lamp on the building provided light at night, also note the person in the white hat in the backround. Note the Bell System watch fob on the belt of the foreman.
