Today is Canada day, and us being both Canadian and insulator collectors, we figured we'd put two and two together, and celebrate in the most economical way - by making an astounding Canadian insulator find! Unfortunately, that didn't happen exactly, but here are the pieces we did find. In terms of miscallaneous pieces picked up, ie., the pieces on the far left, we got a couple interesting purple and cobalt blue bottles from a junk store for $3 each, as well as a cobalt blue figural "Hat" ash-tray for my mom's cobalt blue collection. The preserve jars we scored were, from left to right at the back, 1) a strange, unembossed, crude, thick-glassed vessel with threading on the inside of the lip, and a matching threaded cap. I'd never seen a jar like this before, it looks quite old. Picked it up for $5. 2) a light yellow-green CROWN jar for $0.75. 3) a light purple IMPROVED CROWN jar for $0.75. 4) an IMPROVED CROWN jar without an embossed crown emblem - I've been told these are pretty scarce. Now, for the insulators! They're all grouped according to style, so, omitting the 5 at the front, we'll go based on columns from the left side. 1) a set of 4 identically bland brown porcelain spools, a very strange porcelain cable-top, and an embossed THOMAS signal. 2) at the back is an ARMSTRONG CD 203, and at the front the greatly under-valued Canadian "Dinosaur Egg" porcelain style. These are Uber-old, and quite hard for me to find. 3) at the back, a straw DOMINION 154 (ordinary), then a light green DOMINION 154 (ordinary), then a greenish-straw (gingerale?) DOMINION. This colour really confuses me - I have a couple of it. 4) 5 DOMINION CD 122s, all painfully ordinary. 5) 2 DOMINION - 9 CD 108s 6) 2 Vertical Bar DIAMOND CD 102s and a Brookfield CD 101 7) 2 Hemingray CD 106s and a STAR CD 106. 8) 4 CD 121 HEMINGRAYs, 2 with amber streaks 9) a lone steel blue B.T.C. CANADA CD 121, with purple swirls! Then comes the pieces in the front row, from left to right. 1) CD 102 Vertical Bar, DIAMOND in light aqua with milk and amber swirls, 2) CD 102 Vertical bar, DIAMOND in light aqua with large bubble protruding out of the top of the pinhole. 3) CD 102 Vertical Bar, DIAMOND in light aqua with a swathe of tiny bubbles in the dome. 4) B.T.Co.of Can., DIAMOND CD 102 in light aqua with amber swirls, and a deep underpour on the base. 5) CD 108 DOMINION - 6 style number error in light straw. And that's that! Happy Canada Day, even if you're not Canadian! It'll give you a reason to celebrate!
