Lightning rod ball

Lightning Rod Balls (LRB's)

Lightning rod balls come in a variety of colors and styles. Some are plain and some have a pleated or quilted pattern. Most of them are round, although some are pendant shaped.

Unlike insulators, lightning rod balls were designed to be purely decorative, and that is why we probably see an intentional variety of colors and shapes. Often, a weather vane was also mounted on the lightning rod along with the ball.

A quarterly newsletter, The Crown Point can be ordered from their web site.

A book, The Complete Book of Lightning Rod Balls with Prices, is also available. The cost of the softcover book is $28 ppd. Other binding options are available. Contact the author below for more information.
