The Blue Ridge Jewel Gazette

Volume 1

Number 2

February 15, 2003

The spring 2003 meeting of BRIC was held on February 8 2003 at the home of Tim Galusha in Richmond, VA.

Members attending included Tim, Tommy Snead, Gill Pollard, Fred Collier and Mike Hutchison.

Items discussed at the meeting included:

  1. Bylaws: The bylaws were examined and approved.
  2. Banner: A banner will be purchased with the club name and logo to be used at shows and gatherings.
  3. Website: Gill Pollard is maintaining our website which lists club information, photos and schedules of events. Please visit the web site at: http://www.insulators.com/clubs/bric/
  4. Brochures: Fred Collier suggested we print up a club brochure to distribute at events and antique malls as a means of letting other collectors know about our club and attract new members. We will explore this possibility.
  5. Shirts: It was suggested that we look into the possibility of offering shirts to members with the club logo.
  6. Next meeting: The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 10, 2003 at the home of Chris Childress in Riner, VA. Directions and time of the meeting will be available soon. This will be a swap meet so bring a few good insulators to sell or trade. If you have an unusual insulator or something some of us may not have seen before, please bring it along and share it with us.
  7. Finance report: Gill Pollard reported that we have $118.76 in checking.
  8. Membership report: We now have 16 total members from two states.
  9. Next show date: Our next show date is November 9, 2003. We will host this show with the Southeast Bottle Club in Greensboro, NC

We would like to thank Tim for hosting the meeting and sharing his collection with us. We all had a great time. Of special interest were the "hunting" stories shared by several members. You can see Tim and some of his insulators on our web page.

The member referred to in the last newsletter who bought a large number of insulators was Gill Pollard. The exact number is not known but an educated guess would be around 30,000. The next time you see Gill ask to hear the rest of the story.

There are a few good insulators still out there in service. A member reported finding a 134 Dot/Dot (KCGW) and a 133.1 PATENT/EC. 19. 1871 on the same cross arm. These were spotted in Virginia.
